@andyd Two things:

If a horse or mule founders, the very first course of action is not to shoot them, although shooting may or may not have to be done.
I don't even think Larry owns a gun. Which is unusual in the American South. I'd worry a lot more about me. I think I have one or two around the house.

A few days later I wandered over to the airport to find out how to become a pilot.

Mine was similar. I was a contractor so I did not want lunch or presents or attention. I just didn't take any more contracts. Had I known what this year would be like I probably would have kept working, but I had had enough. I was tired of having to drag clients kicking and screaming onto the path of righteousness.

I was on the Closing Crew. The hospital closed at 2359, June 30th. I was supposed to retire, but was asked to stay on until lab equipment and histology slides, etc, were all taken care of.

When I finally walked out the door, there were only 10 people left out of 556. I didn't even have to say good-bye, except to the walls. Locked the lab up, threw the keys in the holder in the ED and walked out the ED ambulance door...
