I recall he left after Kenny objected to him calling AIDS a disease of homosexuals.
Truth hurts, I guess. It can infect anybody, but it is more prevalent among gays and bisexual males, especially at that time.

No, that was one of the reasons Kenny left. DB left as AC described.
'Assholes ganged up on him' - seriously, Jolly? It was me and one other poster, who I would say is anything but an asshole.
Seriously.
But it wasn't just you, it was a small cadre. People don't mind arguing passionately, but few people can take a barrage from several people. Especially when it's constant.

Jolly is confusing him with Kathy K.
DB left after bachophile noted the antisemitic undertones of one of his posts.

Right, and you right wing chaps never, ever do that to anybody, unless of course they fully deserve it, in which case it's perfectly OK.
If someone is going to post enormously controversial claims, and also state that they have inner sources providing secret information on the outcomes of 2008 elections, for example, then they need to be able to withstand a bit of ribbing, particularly when these anonymous sources are shown to be completely wrong in their predictions.

Kathy is an exception. She is an idiot.
jon's friend. Jon liked her new boyfriend, he posted that he's a cool guy.
-
I did, and he is. That reminds me I still have her pie pan from the dessert she brought.
-
Here’s the thread where DB self-immolated. He edited out his posts but Bach quoted much of it on p4.
It goes on for 23 pages. I only skimmed the first 5. There might be more of it quoted.

I remember one of his defenses in that post was that some of his best friends are Jewish.

Can you please tell us about him? I'm curious. Kathy was abused as a child, obviously, so she is horribly damaged goods. Why would a cool guy get involved with that? Jack regretted it. Is Jack your friend also?
-
Both Kathy and Jack are friends of mine on facebook - really sad I never made it down to that part of Maine to meet either one of them IRL when we lived on the edge of the universe (in northern Maine). Fond memories of some of the funnier threads on the original coffee room - like when Improv and Plays met them both (before anybody knew who Improv was). And when Jack finally spilled the beans that he was married to Kathy. Long time ago, before everything blew up and the piano forum members all siloed, many moved on, some died, and others divorced. Man have we all been through a lot together.
-
I have met KathyK and Jack Front in person. I have also met KathyK's new beau, I believe it was at one of @jon-nyc's piano parties. I have also met David Burton. Sure we disagree at times on politics or conspiracy theories, but we got along pretty damn fine when we talk about music and piano, family and such.

Now you're talking about before I even knew about this forum, so decades ago. But I do remember Jack, so maybe my memory is faulty.
So, who cares. We should open our arms to everyone. We can't just be a clique for the smartest, wisest, most attractive people in the world, everyone should be welcomed!

Yes, that's right!

Yeah, it just turns out that that we happen to be the smartest, wisest, most attractive people in the world, but yes, we should welcome everyone.

hmmm. I think I do remember KathyK from the old days.
If someone wrote one sentence, she responded by writing a book. That's OK. Some books are worth reading, some books not.
You cannot be a forum member here, without being insulted one way or another, and then having thick enough skin to deal with it. As has been pointed out many times, arguments can get very heated, but at the end of the day we'd all go out for pizza and beer together.

The book response is an indicator. You're listening to yourself, but you're not listening to the other person. Dewey was famously (to my mind) responsible for this. I wish he still posted here. It would be fun to poke holes in his little world.

Nah, he's being poked enough, already.
