Turns out that I was the one to learn a lesson about the real world...

So I ask Luke if he's called his boss to get back to work now that he's been cleared from isolation and quarantine. He laughs and tells me "Yes, and they are paying me for the hours I missed and will miss for COVID!"
"Wow, that's pretty cool of them to pay you for the last two weekends! Most places offer sick pay for full-time employees, but seldom part-time. Are you back in for your regular shift this weekend?"
"No Dad! They don't want me coming back in until next month, and they are going to pay me to stay home!"
"You told them that you're clear, right? The doctor even gave you a note..."
"Yes, but he said the policy allows this so I should stay home."
"Did you tell him that you were hoping to work more hours during your break over Christmas?"
"YES! They have me down for 45 hours those weeks! Full time AND 10 HOURS OF OVERTIME! Isn't that great?"
"..."
We allowed him to get the job because we thought the life lessons would be important... Work ethic, the real value of a dollar, no free ride, etc... I guess I was the one that needed to have my eyes opened...

You'll teach him another valuable lesson if you increase his rent.
