Oh good. More Star Wars

I hated from the start.
Nope.
I remember going to a theater in, what, 1977, and watching the movie when it first came out. Watching the Star Destroyer cruise over my head, with the room-shattering sound, was a completely new thing for me.
Was the story weak? Yeah, probably.
But the whole presentation was unique in its day. It left an indelible impression on me (and I was 27 at the time). It was groundbreaking. Nothing at that time, nothing, came close to spectacle, other than 1968's 2001: A Space Odyssey.
I've always been a sci-fi freak, but you knew that, of course.

Remember that seeing Star Wars multiple times in the theatre was a big thing?
I remember a kid interviewed on the local news who had seen it 17 times. Nowadays you’d empty your college fund doing that.
I saw it twice in the theaters. And that was a huge concession from my folks, who thought that was a waste of money (I was 9 maybe).
Anyone else see it multiple times? I mean during its first run in the theaters.

Yes, once in a regular theater and twice at a drive-in.

Actually, I have to say that the very best Star Wars movie was Rogue One. Nothing will ever top the sheer impact of the original movie and the shock of Empire Strikes Back, but Togue One was probably the best all around film.

I went to see Star Wars in 1977, aged 14. Basically, I was the perfect age.
I thought it was OK. It seemed like back then every year there was a record breaking movie we had to see. A couple of years back it was Jaws. Later it was Close Encounters. Star Wars was just another one.
This was before all the real hype kicked in.
Personally, I think it's quite appropriate that the franchise will most likely die with Disney.

I didn’t say I drove... I was 5 when it came out, but it was still showing in Drive-Ins 2 years later.
