Very cool (but sad) pictures.
I remember watching this documentary on a long plane ride to the Far East one time.
One interesting thing was how farmers learned to farm better to prevent this same thing happening in the future.

Isn't it amazing that everybody still had multiple young children?
These days, everything has to be perfect for most people before they decide to become parents: Safe job and sound financial situations, a home suitable for children, good schools in the environment etc.
A part of that difference is of course explained by effective birth control, but I believe that's not the whole story.
