Amazon is keeping The Expanse in orbit for a bit longer, renewing the sci-fi drama for a sixth and final season, TVLine has learned. The news comes less than a month before the show returns for its fifth season on Wednesday, Dec. 16.
While most of the show’s cast will return for the final season, Cas Anvar — who was the subject of a sexual misconduct investigation earlier this year — will not be back as Alex Kamal.
“From the moment we committed to bringing this show to life up until this final season, we have worked tirelessly to honor the vision of the writers,” Expanse executive producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson said in a statement. “We have prided ourselves on having one of the most diverse casts on television and giving a platform to stories that matter. A special thanks to Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck, the writers of both the books and series, and to Naren Shankar, the series showrunner and Executive Producer. It continues to be an honor and privilege to work with this team. We also would like to thank Amazon for their continuing support to help us tell this story in its fullest and to bring The Expanse to a global audience.”
Adds Shankar, “The dedication and artistry of everyone who helps bring The Expanse to the screen is incredible. Our fans are awesome, and we cannot wait to get rolling on Season Six!”Gonna be a heavy lift condensing the last 4 books (6-9) into one season. Hope they don't pull a stupid GOT ending.
This sucks the felota, copang.

That's disappointing. I've found this is a great series to watch every few days rather than binge watch. I'm going through Season 4 at the moment nice and slowly. Burn Gorman's characters are always so easy to despise, he plays a great villain.

Speaking of Amazon, we have a good friend who is acting in a production. Very hush-hush at the moment, but they are apparently getting treated very nicely.

Have you read the books? THey're great too. Some major, but not plot-altering, differences in the books. For example, Avasarala doesn't really play any role in the 1st book.
As the author(s) have said - there's a million ways to tell the Batman story, all are valid, just different. The books tell the story one way, and the TV series tells it another way.
My concern is that book 5 ("Nemesis Games") sets up the finale of the story, and I think they're going to have a hell of a hard time compressing the rest of the story into one season.

I'm glad they're ending it. That's what'll make it great.

Yeah, I guess 6 seasons could cover it, but I think 7 would have been better... They are going to have to cover 3 novels in one season...

Well, if you mean that as in "Yeah, we're done telling the story, and here it is," I agree.
But there's SO MUCH to cram into one season that I'm fearful that they'll rush it, and it'll feel that way.
Look at Babylon 5, when it was undetermined if there would be a fifth season - they tried to wrap it up in in the last half of S4, and it just didn't work. Season 5 seemed like it was tacked on.

I’m wondering if it’s going to be an extended season?
Are they recasting Alex for season 6?

I've read (on FB) different theories - either he'll be recast or written out.
I commented on one of the FB groups about how J. Michael Straczinsky (Babylon 5) always had "trap doors" in his stories so that, if an actor couldn't continue in the role, there was a way to get a replacement going. He did that with Michael O'Hare/Bruce Boxleitner and Claudia Christian/What's Her Name.
It'll be interesting to see what happens.

On Twiter: "After a tragic reactor accident, Rocinante pilot Alex Kamal successfully undergoes face transplant surgery..."
