    I have a cousin Susan whose husband died around 2 years or so ago. They rent a house from me that sits on 20 acres. When Frank was alive they had no trouble paying their rent. After he died though, Suzie has struggled a little, and I told her not to worry about it, if she had it fine, if she didn't have it, that's fine too.

    Yesterday I had the deed transferred to her with a selling price of one dollar. I'm going to discreetly give her the deed on Thanksgiving. We're all getting together at her house for dinner..

    I hope she has a dollar on her........

    House.

    Dollar.

    Rent.

    Larry,

    The only thing missing from your post is "trees."

              @larry. Good for you. 👍🏻👩‍❤️‍👨

              I always have hope that I will be able to “slow travel”. To go somewhere for a few months, get settled so it does not feel like I am a tourist. Stay longer if I want or try somewhere new.

              Maybe do that with a “home base” to come back to.

                What will you "do", Larry?

                You're young in terms of retirees.

                And I don't mean in terms of something grandiose. I think I'd be fully happy cooking meals and sharing them with family / friends.

                      Mom is doing great physically. She gets around as good if not better than most 60 year olds. Her short term memory is getting bad. She can jump in her minivan and take off anywhere she wants to go... But if she took a wrong turn onto a road she didn't recognize and doesn't get back to a place she knows fast, she would never find her way home.. Her mind would be working just fine, she just wouldn't ever get home. Hard to explain it....

                      As to where we want to end up... as long as mom is alive we will be right here. Thats fine with both of us. Sarah and my mother love each other dearly, and of course, I love both of them. So we're perfectly happy staying here, hopefully for a good long time . But when it's only Sarah and I, I'm thinking I'd like to stay summers up in the Smokey Mountains here, winter at our place in the Philippines, and maybe rent a place a couple of months a year in different locations. I've been hearing good things about Chile, but I'd also like to try out a few places in Europe. I think I'd love Ireland, but not year round. Maybe Italy for short stays. I love Spain. But I don't think I could ever leave the US for good. I don't think it gets any more beautiful than the Smokey Mountains.

                            I fully get it. Sarah's mom died a few years ago. That leaves her dad, two brothers, and a sister. We already give her father more than enough to live well every month, her sister is married and they do fine on their own. One brother lives with their dad and is there if he needs anything, so he's ok.. the other brother wants to lay on his ass and complain about the fact that we wont give him a dime lol dad and the one brother live in the province,, out in the boonies. The sister lives in Cebu City.

                                  Sounds like she has a strong responsibility gene. It can be a PITA, but it is also an admirable quantity.
