The scariest thing was watching the reactions on social media during this episode.
It’s striking how many of our fellow countrymen would happily toss out a centuries-old tradition of democracy on the slimmest of pretexts just so that Donald Trump can stay in office for four more years.

Yet no one can produce any evidence of any substantial fraud. Just the handful of anecdotes you’d find in any election you looked at closely.
Hence my point - on the slimmest of pretexts.
Really it reduces to Trump’s base “just knows” there was massive fraud. Like he’s been telling them since well before the first vote. In fact, since he lost the last popular vote.

Let’s see who taught us our democracy was built by a bunch of racist white men and many of our traditions need to be thrown out or deplatformed in any manner possible?

This is pretty much the same argument people use to prove that Trump is a racist. Nobody outside his inner circle really knows how he actually feels about anything. Everybody can find little examples of things he's said and done to support or disprove the accusation, but there's no proof that I'm aware of.
All of Trump's supporters can clearly see how stupid the racism accusations are. For some reason, they appear unable to accept the same explanation for massive voter fraud.

Sorry, Jon, it may never be proven. I think the riggers have been doing this so long and are so good at it, that enough proof may never surface.
But if I look out in a field and see a small animal, with a bandit's mask face and rings on its tail, I know it's not a deer. Now, you can provide all kinds of stats to prove that it's a deer, but I know better.
Having suffered through the last remnant of the Long machine, having known people who bought votes, having seen how voting patterns in New Orleans changed after God flushed that toilet and after having rigged one voting machine myself, I have full confidence this election was rigged in some battleground states.
Want to restore faith in elections? Do away with mail-in ballots except in rare exceptions (military, etc.), and then the ballot must be requested. All mail-in ballots must have the accompanying signed outer envelope available for audit. All signatures must match. All mail-in ballots must be received by the day before Election Day and counts must be done by noon. Early voting is allowed, but only in person with ID and verified signature. And a tamper-proof system must be designed for ballots, where all parties can witness a transparent storage and count.
You'll never get that by the Dems...

But then the Republican base wasn’t primed to ‘just know’ until Trump did it this summer.

I always thought the Dems were stupid going after that. Certainly when Mueller hadn't turned up anything after the first month.
