My mother is on the way to the hospital. After a week of severe diarrhea, vomiting etc. she is disoriented and can no longer perform her peritoneal dialysis. Maybe this is related to the dialysis not working properly. In any case, it's not good.

Oh my, Klaus. This is very sad, and it must be very distressing for you and your family. I hope she can get stabilized again and feel better soon. Hugs to you.

Sounds like she's really dehydrated. Hopefully that's all it is.

Other than being on PD, how's her health otherwise? How old is she?

Well, that would be good if it were just dehydration. I suspect, though, that it's the cumulative effect of a not-working dialysis over multiple days. She's 73. Health is reasonable, apart from PD. Not overweight, but a long history of hypertension (which probably caused the kidney failure).

I don't know yet. Right now I'd drive six hours to be rejected at a hospital door due to Corona. Hopefully we'll get a better picture of the situation by tomorrow.

Is there a family, or friends with whom you could communicate about her status?

I hope you get to see her

My daughter works in a large Emergency Department and they obviously have tough rules about visitors because of the virus

But, they have some common sense, so they will not be stupid about it if a family member should be allowed to visit.

I hope your situation has a positive resolution, but if you need to visit go look someone at the hospital in the eye and tell them.

Most places I know started allowing single family member at a time visits.

The super tight restrictions of last spring were mostly a result of PPE shortages, I suspect.
