Taking Out The Old Tape And Putting In A New Tape

Back in 2000, I was having serious problems with depression and other mental health issues. I decided to not only see a therapist in individual therapy at the time. I also elected to go into group therapy.
While in group therapy, one of the therapists talked to us members in the group about how those with depression issues have too many irrational and negative beliefs, and how they need to be replaced with more rational, positive beliefs.
The way he put it was by saying that if you have depression issues, it's like having a tape with lots of negative beliefs. So, according to him, you have to take out the tape that has a lot of negative beliefs and replace it with a new tape, a tape with positive and rational beliefs.
I thought that was an interesting and cool way of wording it on his part.
And can it be done? Yes, I think so. Taking out the old tape and putting in a new tape with better beliefs is easier said than done. And it doesn't happen overnight. But this therapist said it could be done.
I think he was right.
