I don’t know where you get your news feeds but the greatest percent of new cases in the last week by state are hardly GOP states. Scroll to the bottom to see.

I dont think it is quite as simple as that.
From what I have seen from far away, the mask/no mask is (while not 100% clear) pretty much divided on politics. Of the people who do not wear masks, I would willing to bet that a high percentage of them will vote for President Trump.
And this I think has been one of his biggest failure with the COVID.. He could have lead by talk and example about masks.
Not sure if it is true, but I read in a couple of different places that if the US had 100% mask wearing, the virus could be knocked down in 8 weeks or so.

And you'd be wrong, TG. Our governor, who has done a great job, has been a constant proponent of masks and a Trump supporter for the most part. They have called for his removal from office, and that includes some elected state representatives. These folks were there long before Trump was even a candidate. The anti-maskers, many of whom I know personally, take that position based on their idea of freedom and their constitutional rights, not any cue from Trump. It would not matter if he was consistently strong on mask wearing.

I think we will have to agree to disagree. I think it it somewhat nave to think that if President Trump strongly, strongly talked about wearing masks, that many (probably not all) of people who support him would not wear masks.
(Of course, if President Trump came out strong for wearing masks, then the Democrats would come out against masks, so I guess the net end would be the same as it is now LOL)
It makes me mad to hear from people in the US and read about people in the US talking about their "ideal of freedom and constitutional rights". As I have say before, I would maybe have respect for that opinion if they gave it to me while completely naked.
Why stop at a mask cutting your freedom. What about your shirt? Pants? Shoes? etc

You are confusing pre-existing opinions and attitudes with Trump's ability to affect citizen behavior. These folks voted for Trump because they think he shares their beliefs. They did not change their beliefs or actions because of anything he said or did. To believe otherwise is simply to buy into the anti-Trump narrative.

If someone I respect says something to me about my behavior, I will give it consideration.
For example:
"Jennifer, when you talked with Mr. XX at the meeting yesterday, I think you it would help to do this........."
I will think about it and maybe change how I approached it.
Another example:
"Fellow citizens. Wearing masks is patriotic. If you love your country, and want to open up the economy as soon as possible, wear your mask. We can show those Democrat states that we know how to do things correctly.
Wearing a mask will help you, help your fellow patriots, help the Republic Party and help me get re-elected!!!!!!"

There are laws about public decency and wearing clothes.
Is there a law that you have to wear shoes? When was the last time someone was allowed into a store with bare feet? If they were not allowed, did they have a tantrum and talk about their rights?
-
Again, you are confusing your issues. Laws and social norms for wearing clothes have been with us for millennia. If someone you respect told you, "TG, you would make more of an impact if you delivered your presentation naked" you would not give it a second's consideration. Masks have never been a social norm or a law and so do not enjoy that status.
And Trump has repeatedly said just that about masks. He has repeatedly shown hiself wearing one when he thought it necessary. Again, you are just buying a false narrative.

Correct.
