I’m sitting here snuggling with Finley and I had to turn off the Superman movie (Man of Steel) because it’s too violent and scary, so I put it on Hotel Transylvania (a movie about vampires, werewolves, and golems) since it is more kid friendly.

Been watching Ray Bradbury Theater with our kiddo. She seems into it.
She's already a metalhead. No shit, she legit likes Iron Maiden.

Dude, really? It's old school, similar to Twilight Zone or The Night Gallery.

They'll turn on ya though. My youngest liked Rob Zombie but then got into One Direction and Taylor Swift and that was that.

Oh I fully expect it but that's okay. Maiden will still rule.

My son got really into heavy metal at about 8 years old. I remember thinking ’cool, he’ll be over it by 12’. And sure enough, he is. Doesn’t dislike it, just moved on (don’t even ask to what).
My own heavy metal phase lasted from maybe 14-15 and then I started listening to Phil Collins and The Police.

I must say that when I don't listen to classical stuff, I often listen to various forms of metal. This style of music has more innovation than regular rock/pop, in my opinion. Rhythm, harmonics, melodies - it's much more likely to hear something interesting in metal pieces compared to mainstream popular music. Also, the number of metal musicians who are classically trained is telling.

I never really "appreciated" metal, other than some basic Metallica ("Enter Sandman, eg). Perhaps I should explore more.
I used to work with a heart surgeon who wanted nothing but metal (DEATH metal, by the way) played when he worked. And he wanted it loud.
Good surgeon, by the way.

There's a shitload of subgenres. Not all of it's annoying to listen to.

For me, it's the song, not the genre. Except AC/DC. They are always fun to listen to. No Mozarts, but fun. Like Polka Rock.

Do you consider AC/DC metal? I really don't know.

Iron Maiden is as far as I’ll go. Maybe Alice In Chains too. In my day led zep and deep purple and Jimi Hendrix were hard rock for me and that other stuff was fringe and more noise than pleasing.

I went through the phase when Ac/Dc, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Def Leopard, Judas Priest etc we’re touring. ( hell they probably still are, but then it was fresh). Went to all those concerts at the War Memorial stadium in Rochester. Got the three-quarter sleeve tshirts and everything

When my oldest was a baby, the only thing that would put her to sleep was "War Pigs". She still listens to metal, but she listens to Lizzo and other stuff too.
