Iron Maiden is as far as I’ll go. Maybe Alice In Chains too. In my day led zep and deep purple and Jimi Hendrix were hard rock for me and that other stuff was fringe and more noise than pleasing.

I went through the phase when Ac/Dc, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Def Leopard, Judas Priest etc we’re touring. ( hell they probably still are, but then it was fresh). Went to all those concerts at the War Memorial stadium in Rochester. Got the three-quarter sleeve tshirts and everything

When my oldest was a baby, the only thing that would put her to sleep was "War Pigs". She still listens to metal, but she listens to Lizzo and other stuff too.

Do you consider AC/DC metal? I really don't know.

I'd say they are, sure. They kinda squeak by.

I'll say this: they aren't The Who in terms of talent but they definitely worked harder. Say what you want about the band but they earned every bit of their success.

          Please love yourself.

Metal? Yeah, pretty much. And yes, they deserve their success They found teh right formula and worked it beautifully. I cannot think of another band that is more just plain fun to listen to. Mor einteresting? Sure. More musical? Of course. But the heart of rock an roll is fun.

Angus Young is great to listen to talk about playing the guitar. He comes across as being really quite modest and unassuming.

              I was only joking

Maiden are still writing albums, and they're still great. Almost saw 'em in Oz. 😕 Several folks in line were wearing tour tshirts that were older than me, which was cool.

I saw Sabaton in DC just a year or so ago. No T-34 on stage, but it was an awesome show nonetheless. I've seen Bodum, which was a great show, but they're not really my thing.

                Dragonforce is so consistently awesome/hilarious.

One of my favorite to see is Helloween/Gamma Ray. The lead singer of Helloween had a mutual falling out with the band and started Gamma Ray afterward. Helloween had so much respect for him though that they wrote a "no hard feelings" kinda song for him in their next album. Now, the two bands tour together almost all the time. You can tell they just love the shit out of playing for fans. Also, the bands play each other's stuff all the time; encores are usually both bands on stage together. I've never seen people have so much genuine fun playing live. Those shows are great.

                Please love yourself.

                  AC/DC is not metal.

Reading this thread, it’s become increasingly hard to draw lines between hard rock and metal. Maybe it’s a lack of underlying blues chords or maybe it’s related to lack of commercial success. Maybe it’s a matter of which tribe one is willing to identify with. I suspect we all have our own sense of when it is no longer organized sound.

Metal is a silly term for loud, guitar driven rock n roll with sometimes dark themes. AC/DC fits that bill.

                    So there. 😛
