Those who cheered as J-6 American prisoners were locked in solitary for 18 months without trial, now suddenly fight tooth and nail for foreign terrorists’ "due process". — Buck Sexton

The fact that moms develop emotional attachments to wanted unborn babies must have been understood and factored in by both sides of the abortion debate long before now.

      Education is extremely important.

A good family friend recently carried to term and gave birth, if it can be called that, to a baby with anencephaly - essentially his brain never developed past the stem. Heartbreaking. She carried it to term with full knowledge so that its organs coud be used to give other babies life.

Not a straightforward condolence to compose. I’m impressed they went ahead and called it losing a son.

Miscarriages are so weird. I know the time at which they occur can really change things, but I've seen people treat them like everything from a cold to losing a family member and everything in between. Personally I'm always kind of surprised when people don't get more upset about them, but admittedly it's not going to be something I'll ever be able to fully wrap my head around.

              Please love yourself.

No we don't. We don't walk around with people respecting, fearing, and waiting on us all day. We are average schlubs, except for those of us who aren't. Such as this kid would have been.

I know a few people in rural India living off the largesse of their siblings in developed countries.

Then they have an army of the subsistence under-caste to wait on them.

                      They ain’t particularly happy people.

Not so sure. Plenty of celebrity kids have a miserable time.

I've been taken by the number of celebrity suicides over the last couple of years. Particularly amongst 'influencers' and people who don't actually do anything, but are famous simply for being famous. It seems like there have been an unusually large number of them.

                        I was only joking

Just extending this thought. One of the happiest people I know is one of those siblings in the first world countries.

He has a bustling cabinetry business. Works about 70 hours a week.

Lives on rent in a shit 1 br. The thought of taking away economic uncertainty for his siblings and kids makes him happier than anything else could.

He was shaped by his first 25 years of hard living and uncertainty (before emigrating).

It amazes him to no end that he can just plug hard work in on one end and reliably get money out the other.

Incidentally a lot of successful immigrants spoil their kids with that very thought.

Had this kid survived, the would-be (n+1)th kid (where n is the total # of kids the couple plan to have) would be prevented from conception. In the grand scheme of things, it’s a wash.

I should say, I wasn't trying to be glib about the miscarriage. It's a terrible thing to happen to anybody.

                                    I was only joking

Not so sure. Plenty of celebrity kids have a miserable time.

Since this kid miscarried, the couple will likely try again and the next kid will have the this kid’s life. Had this kid survived, the would-be (n+1)th kid (where n is the total # of kids the couple plan to have) would be prevented from conception. In the grand scheme of things, it’s a wash.

I dunno - happiness feels relative to what you're used to.

We live better lives than 10th century monarchs, to a certain degree.

No we don't. We don't walk around with people respecting, fearing, and waiting on us all day. We are average schlubs, except for those of us who aren't. Such as this kid would have been.

A semi close friend had a father who immigrated from Russia after the partition to Pakistan and became super high up in the Pakistan Air Force. He showed me pictures of his childhood home. There was basically an apartment building for his family staff - multiple cooks, gardeners, drivers, etc etc etc
