It's National Homemade Cookie Day !
Okay, if you want to make some bars instead, go for it. I made some of these to send to my kiddo, and a second batch to keep hubby happy.

You can have another day of National Coffee Day to go with your cookies.

Hmm . . . At first I thought it was those special peaches you love, then realized it was way too late. Then I thought it was the Meyer lemons you love, then realized I had no idea what the growing season is for lemons in the lemon-climate states, but probably too late for those as well.
So yeah, I'll take the cookies, thank you.

Cats, it's apple season here now. Hubby and I are planning to go get some later today. The orchards we like are along the Mississippi River. In particular, the apples from La Crescent, Minnesooooooota are the best in the world. There are none better. Period. Washington apples ain't got nuthin' on our local apples.
I can't even list all the varieties grown here, there are so many, and I love about 20 of the varieties. We'll get 4 or 5 kinds when we go, because it's an hour to get there.
Most will be for fresh eating: Honey Crisp, SweeTango, Cortland, Sweet 16, Honey Gold.
Another group will be for baking: Midwest Granny, Prairie Spy, Macintosh.
There's a brand new variety out this year called First Kiss. If we can, we'll get some to try. We've heard they're very good.

Apple time here, too.
I had a pleasant surprise recently. Normally I don't buy Honeycrisp (best in the world) out of season, because IMO they don't store all that well. I just take advantage of the availability of the fresh -- around Nov-Dec -- and live without in sorrow the rest of the year.
My last shopping trip I found some that actually looked pretty decent -- tight shiny skins, smelled good, etc -- and I brought some home. They were pretty decent!
Life is good sometimes.

Fresh is best, isn't it. The baked apple pies and such are wonderful, but I think I like a fresh apple just as well. Hubby goes through a lot of them, too, so we stock up this time of year.
Didn't get out to the orchards today. Maybe next week will work. There's not much time left and the best ones sell out early.

You can thank me later...
