By the way there was some fun little trolling at the grand opening. Letterman and Colbert wore tan suits to remind Republicans how far they’ve fallen.

Yeah, it could have been worse. They could have called him a Nazi. But, even the New York Times fashion editor thought it inappropriate.

But, @mik , it's not a library. It's a "center." National archives has minimal input into what's in there. There are few official presidential records and it is totally privately funded.

By the way, have they paid the debt on the thing yet? Last I heard it was $490 million. Lots of contractors bitching about not getting paid, and some looking at bankruptcy. It's going to have to get a lot of admissions (at $35 a pop) to cover the estimated cost of keeping the lights on ($40 million a year).

I mean, they got a sweet deal - $1 a year lease for 99 years of 13 acres of lakefront property, but you gotta pay the staff.

But at least it looks like a Klingon prison.

          I love you long time.

Im not a fan of the ‘presidential monument’ idea. Library made sense when there were reams of papers. Now it seems they could be virtual. Or mostly virtual with a small building with some momentos, perhaps standalone or perhaps hosted by a university (isn’t that what GHWB did). But not a museum experience. And certainly not a for profit hotel/casino.

They’re doing one for Teddy Roosevelt in North Dakota. It’s the first thing I’ve seen that could make me step foot there.
