You know how it (and others) ask you about follow on questions after they give you an answer? Used to be they’d offer two or three follow-ups and say ‘let me know where you want to take it’ or something like that.

With 5.4 it’s trying much harder to get you to continue. Generally, instead of offering a few options it gives you an intriguing follow up option that verges on click bait.

A recent example, I was asking about a theory that Amelia Earhart survived her crash, later died in an island and then had her remains eaten by those huge coconut crabs.

After explaining the theory, it says this:

If you want, I can also tell you the three most intriguing pieces of evidence from Nikumaroro that keep this theory alive among aviation historians. They’re actually pretty fascinating.

It’s getting a little annoying. Mostly because I keep clicking.

The whole reason we call them illegal aliens is because they’re subject to our laws.

I had basically stopped using ChatGPT because Claude 4.6 is so much better, but with 5.4 they seem to have caught up.

The only annoying thing about Claude is that I perpetually run out of token budget.

The solution is to increase your Claude token budget.

I tried Claude and it tried to funnel me into certain topics. It might do that with new users, but I found it annoying. Prefer Gemini, never tried ChatGPT.

Gemini asks followup questions too. It’s been very useful as I’m embroiled in a really stupid drainage dispute with a neighbor so have been looking up all sorts of permits, lot lines, regulations, etc.

You folks pay for subscriptions or just using the "free" version?

I currently have three subscriptions: ChatGPT, Claude, and Github Copilot.
