I'm convinced. The part about the breakeven stats applying no discount to future dollars is particularly stupid. Of course the government hopes people claim as late as possible.

I'm 62 and still working full time, so it doesn't make sense for me. Apart from anything else, I'd get taxed up the ass.

Obviously, I didn't watch the video, but I can't see how it would be a good idea now.

        I was only joking

I didn't watch the video because I'm working full time.

Snark aside, am I wrong? If I work until I'm 65 rather than retire at 62, I get roughly $50K more per year, based on pension, 401K and SS.

Sounds like sound reasoning to me.

An income interferes with SS between 62 and full retirement age of 67. The video assumes one is retired.

You're a bunch of lucky lazy buggers retiring at that age. Who do you think are, the French?

No wonder you need immigrants to do your work for you.

I took it at 70 - and didn't watch the video. One thing to consider is that in 7 years they'll likely cut the benefit for everyone by about 25% as funds will have run out. They'll have to cut it again a few years later. Of course, congress could fix it - but that's not going to happen.

Actually, I've seen a few videos that anticipate that the government will do what was done in Argentina, Greece, Poland and a couple of other countries is that once the national debt is sufficiently out of control, the government will nationalize pensions, 401Ks and IRAs - to make things better for all of us.

I think congress would fix it. Seniors with reduced checks will become single issue voters pretty fast.

The whole reason we call them illegal aliens is because they’re subject to our laws.
