PM Carney - I meant what I said in Davos

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said he spoke to President Trump and told him he stands by his remarks last week issuing a call-to-arms among smaller powers against economic coercion.
This marks the latest uptick in trade tensions between Ottawa and Washington just as U.S. officials prepare a formal review of the North American trade treaty that Canada relies on to ship exports to the U.S. on a largely duty-free basis.
Carney’s speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, didn’t identify the U.S. or Trump, but was widely interpreted as a rebuke to Trump’s policies on using American economic and military might to achieve geopolitical goals. The remarks offered a template for countries on countering this pressure.
“To be absolutely clear, and I said this to the president: ‘I meant what I said in Davos,’” Carney said Tuesday about his 30-minute conversation with Trump. “It was a broader set of issues, and Canada was the first country to understand the change in U.S. trade policy that he initiated, and we’re responding to that.”

Seems that Bessent finds Carney’s superior competence as statesman and candid remarks at Davos need to be checked by employing an extortionist response:
"I would just encourage Prime Minister Carney to do what he thinks is best for the Canadian people, not his own virtue signalling, because we do have a USMCA negotiation coming up," Bessent said, using the American acronym for the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA).

Everyday the Trump Adminstration marvellously confirms the essential truth behind Carney’s remarks at Davos. No wonder it garnered a standing ovation.
Bessent again makes an ass of himself.
