Does remind me of the story that Roselyn Tureck nixed Andres Schiff from the finals of a competition because, as Charles Rosen said,"he played better than she did."

Hint 3: The older pianist became famous at a young age through a piano competition where two of the jury members were also super-famous pianists. He was well-known for loving expensive sports cars, especially a specific brand from his country of birth.

Hint 4: Both pianists have /had a troubled relationship with their country of birth.

Hint 5: The name of one of them suggests an above-average intelligence.

        Michelangeli and Pogorelic?

Close but not quite. There was a scandal around a piano competition of Pogorelic, but that was with Martha Argerich.

Michelangeli and his Ferrari. Then it was just a latter of figuring out who lived in his house.

Damn, I knew that the sports car thing would be too much information.

I thought you'd get Ashkenazy first based on Hint 5.

(yesterday I watched a 2 hour documentary on ABM, which included an interview of Ashkenazy in ABM's former home)

I just spent 2 hours Googling Russian sports cars.

                          I was only joking

For the British owner, this was probably a step-up from what he was used to.
