    https://www.cnbc.com/2025/10/10/new-fees-government-taxes-on-demand-delivery-food-shopping-apps.html

Doorstep taxes: extra charges levied by local governments on deliveries made to your doorstep (e.g., Amazon, DoorDash)

Neighborhood Fees: extra charges collected by port authorities when you are merely "visiting a neighborhood." The article focuses on extra charges at airport concessions, but I would also lump in tourist taxes (like those charges to hotel rooms by state governments).

Private businesses do their fair share of adding miscellaneous surcharges, but this article focuses on taxes/surcharges collected by local governments.

I think that depends on how these things have affected revenues and/or quality of life in that municipality.

Seems to be that the more regressive the tax, the easier it is to push through without anybody complaining too loudly.

If the purpose is to alleviate stress on the infrastructure, alleviate the stress on the infrastructure. If the purpose is to cover the increased infrastructure costs, that’s okay, too. But the stated intention of manipulating behavior? I mean, curb illegal activities, sure, but shopping?

I could possibly see it to try and protect local stores from Amazon, but this actually hurts local restaurants and other businesses that provide local delivery.
