My town has a picnic/party at the waterfront park from 3-11 or so. The boy is down there now, Mayla and I will eat here and go a bit before the fireworks which start at 9.

Eat what you ask? Burgers and dogs on the grill, and some grilled corn.

Over to friends for dinner, then a cookout here tomorrow night. Tomorrow will be grilled swordfish, watermelon mint feta salad and corn on the cob.

        Corn - microwaved.
        Watermelon - raw.

Watermelon and feta are a great combo. I first had it 25 years ago or so on a Lufthansa business class flight. Since then I make various versions of it.

Love to see your recipe, Mik.

It’s a Jacques Pépin version. Thanks for reminding me I forgot to get the cheese today. Love watermelon all summer long.

Thanks again. I went freezer diving and found a log of chevre. That'll do nicely.

We do a mint/feta/watermelon skewer with a balsamic glaze. I cut out the watermelon to look like a kettle grill and you lay the skewers across your look like they are grilling, and the glaze is grill marks…

last nights dinner, was carpaccio dressed with olive oil and arugula, stuffed grapevine leaves, (made by a druze woman who sells her stuff at the market), some whole grain bread, and a bottle of prosecco. nothing particularly american i must say, but a nice meal anyway. happy the war is over for now. alaska in two weeks.
