Chinese Propaganda

I have a friend whose son is working in China - he's been there for a while. He sent me this message today:

"I talked to my son in China last night and he told me about a major propaganda program going on there. The government is now blaming Africans for the virus. In a neighboring province, Guangzhou, our State dept has warned black Americans who could be confused as Africans to avoid going out in public and to even leave the province if possible. He gave me some brutal examples of some things that have happened. The public are attacking black people and some landlords are throwing Africans out of their resident. He said it is unbelievable how easily the Chinese people are brainwashed by government propaganda. He said he is often asked when he enters a business where he is from. He said that he identifies as Italian because if you are asked and identify as American or Canadian you won't get served. Now Africans are added to the list. He posted a video a couple days ago where he was at a little lunch shop and he wouldn't get served until every Chinese was served first, even all the ones that came in after him. He said the Africans are getting brutalized way more than the Americans or Canadians did.?

Holy cow! They must know their government is promoting this behavior, and that there will be no penalty for it.

I have the impression that the mainland Chinese already discriminate against black (very dark-skinned) people even before the pandemic. The pandemic and (most likely government sanctioned) propaganda just exacerbate the discrimination.
