          Unfortunately not everybody cares.
          People who are willing to believe (or at least not dispute) Trump‘s “many people say …” stuff are unlikely to care about citation and reference accuracy.
          Even here, where we believe our regulars are more thoughtful, more informed than the general population, not every one thinks references and citations are important.

              Unfortunately, it is something both sides are guilty of. If it is (generic) your side that does something stupid, it is easy to dismiss.

              If (generic) you is on the other side, it is a big deal.

              It is a rare politician who is willing to speak up against their side.
