The Canadian government has reinforced border operations to stop migrants going to the United States, a major Trump complaint. But early data shows people are, instead, starting to flee the United States for Canada.

In Alberta, preliminary calculations show that up to 20 people have been apprehended crossing illegally so far this year, ...

By contrast, only seven people were apprehended crossing the border illegally in Alberta in all of 2024.

I assume these aren't Americans, but illegal immigrants worried about deportation?

      Only non-witches get due process.

Probably illegals fleeing from the US hoping to avoid deportation. Sad Christmas for them since under the Cross Border treaty in effect we send them right back to the US and the US sends the ones that cross from here right back to us. No hearings, no opportunity to plead refugee status. Just in the van and to the nearest available land border crossing.

There is nothing along that Alberta Montana border other than bare arsed prairie, wind, rednecks, Blackfoot Indians, more wind and, tucked into the very western corner, high mountains where this time of year, black bears and grizzlies are coming out of hibernation.

        Elbows up!

Could they be American movie actors?

That’s even more exciting than the slow down at the southern border!

Thank you, @Axtremus . I was feeling a little down about our administration this afternoon. I feel much better, now!

I became a Canadian citizen a few years ago - but haven't obtained a passport. Maybe my next step.

I imagine Alberta, Saskatchewan & Manitoba to be the worst borders to cross on foot in winter. The wind is especially brutal here.
