    Senator Kennedy thinks so...

    https://www.insideradio.com/free/bill-to-end-public-radio-and-tv-funding-gets-support-in-senate/article_844dbd50-b6c3-11ef-8bea-375b4f48a56e.html

    My opinion?

Keep it, with caveats. Both tv and radio need some serious overhauling. For radio, I'd like to see a lot more balance in political commentary, a return to unbiased news programming and some decent national oriented shows. I'd like to hear a new iteration of car talk, some new game shows, and something along the lines of Keilor's old show. I'd like to hear regional symphonies and popular music from local artists...Maybe Saturday Nights at Billy Bob's or Heritage Hall Jazz. I'd like to see us create an open exchange of university radio with the best programs picked for national airing. I'd like to see the U.S. military bands and chorales used for weekly big band music and chorale ensembles. I'd also like to see the establishment of three or four 100,000 watt stations on the AM band for people out in the hinterlands. I think there is a lot we can do in radio, with no increase in funding.

In broadcast tv, we need to cut out news bias as much as possible. We need a national morning show and we need to keep much of the current children's programming. We need a new generation of Firing Line and it's liberal counterpoint. We need to continue with the best of shows, such as American Masters or Nova. And we need to take the new PBS and make it totally free to live stream in any format, with all previous current seasons available on demand (after broadcast). We also need to allow PBS to broadcast advertising, but in a limited mode...Always between programs, never in the middle of. We should also encourage business to sponser shows, something like a return to The Colgate Comedy Hour, The Texaco Star Show or Philco Television Playhouse.

Firing Line would be great - civilized discourse on ideas, not ideologies.

Another thought on radio... I'd like to see NPR program older radio shows such as The Life of Reilly or the radio adaptations of movies. I'd also like to see them return a program like CBS Mystery Theater with all new stories.

@Jolly said in Is it time?:

            The Life of Reilly

Try Amos & Andy and maybe Jack Benny and Rochester.

That would be so un-woke it couldn't survive, if it could happen at all.

The original justification for it disappeared long ago. Broadcast technology now has a marginal cost of zero.

As for National Public ‘made possible by…’ Radio, they’ll be fine with their McDonalds fortune and all their corporate and foundation funds.

              Only non-witches get due process.

I think you're right, but without any public funds there is no accountability to the public for impartiality.

I find Masterpiece Theater funny to watch. They generally just take standard British TV drama and stick this pretentious introduction at the start with some bloke going on about thespians. Most of them aren't even from Thespia, they're often from Surrey.

generally, your thespians are better than our lesbians.
