I heard an interview with Maggie Haberman from the NYT a couple of months ago. No fan of Trump.

She said he’s pretty much the same guy that came down the escalator. Maybe a bit less energy and enthusiasm - but not that different.

Maybe. I think he rambles a bit more or stretches things out a little more than he used to. But he's certainly no Biden.

Based on the OP, I assume the ‘they’ we’re talking about is the Republican House Leadership?

          Nope.

The Dems knew he had problems fairly early in his term. I think Biden's problems accelerated (as dementia is wont to do...plateau and then sudden drop) in the last 15 months.

I agree. It was no surprise to anyone on this forum board that he was declining pretty obviously.

It would be tough for any reasonable person to look at videos of president Biden from the campaign of 2020 and compare to 2024 and not see a decline.

This conversation is already dated. Now if you all haven't noticed the new guy's eroding dura mater by now, you haven't been paying attention. President Vance in 24 months tops. The anguished cry of MAGA will be heard from sea to shining sea as they will NOT roll over their allegience so easily to Project 25.

My prediction is that your prediction will be treated with the respect it's due, and nobody will bother tracking it or dunking on you when the time comes.

I listened to that whole Weiss - Johnson interview. It's delightful. Johnson is impressive.

Except Mike Johnson was being a bit disingenuous…

That sort of skirts the issue, and doesn't disprove the gist of Johnson's claim. Biden didn't know he signed an executive order that apparently has something to do with pausing exports of LNG. Biden only remembered something about studying the effects of LNG. That's enough for Johnson's point to be what it is.

Maybe Johnson is lying that his constituents were affected by these specific-case pauses. Or maybe his constituents in that industry were mistaken that they were affected by the EO, told that to Johnson, and Johnson believed them. In any case, Biden didn't remember or understand the EO, and perhaps was lied to by his handlers who put it under his nose to sign. Or, Johnson is lying about the whole thing. Anybody is free to judge as they please.

Johnson's district contains a very large natural gas field. I suspect it is a product he is quite familiar with.

The guy makes a good point, and re-says it the last 10 seconds or so of the video. Large Projects involving things like LNG or oil are years/decades in the developing.

President Biden says he stop permitting, it WILL NOT immediately stop exports to Europe, Middle East, etc. The effect will not be seen for years.

Same if President Trump says he will open permits to everyone, it not like production will double overnight. It will be years to see that effect, and in the meantime, another administration will come in, and modify Bidens/Trumps order.

I think I have mentioned this before, but I was at a roundtable with the CEO of PTT (semi national energy company of Thailand, Fortune 100 company). He was talking about Thailand, but it would apply anywhere I think.

Anyways, he said that he doesn't really care who is in power. Weather they are more "business friendly" or less "business friendly". What they look for is stability of one path or the other. That would help a lot in their planning. But since he knows that policies will change, they choose a middle course and plan long term based on that, knowing that 5/10/20 years ahead, things will generally even out.
