Hot and Cold and Hot

Our shower's been acting wonky for the last few weeks.
After an initial run of nice warm (very warm) water, after about 5 minutes, the water starts to cool down to almost room temperature. I would have thought it's a water heater problem, but turning the controls to the more "hot" setting restores the nice hot temperature, although the handle is now at a "warmer" setting than it was before.
The shower stall shares a wall with the bathtub, so I imagine the feed from the hot water heater is shared. When I run the water in the tub, there's no problem.
Any ideas?
