After you've done all the cleaning and sanitizing you can, odors still remain. An old homicide detective once told me the best home remedy he knew of, was to put coffee grounds in an iron skillet and burn them on the stovetop.
TBH, I've not had the opportunity to try that out. But here's something a bit similar, although for a slightly less odiferous purpose...

Coffee grounds + wax = good portable fire starter. Another good use for Altoid tins.

I take machine shredded paper strips put them in paper egg carton cells then pour hot parafin over the shreds. Shreds stick to the carton cell and you have an instant fire starter pod. One or two pods is all it takes to start a campfire.
