    Unambiguously true back then, but it's not quite the same calculation now with everybody jaundiced against the media and its bias, and the ability to get the truth out, and disseminated, almost immediately. I'm not saying he should have let them publish, but I don't think it's obvious that it would have had a worse outcome for him. Establishing memorable precedent of a lie against him may come in handy. This won't be that memorable.

    Education is extremely important.

      But, in terms of what gets out there, it'll seem like damage control by Hegseth.

                    It would have been a blacker eye for propublica if they had published it, then got fact checked. Maybe also a blacker eye for hegseth, but that's more debatable.
