@Horace said in ProPublica tries to do a journalism.:
He missed an opportunity to let them publish it, then dunk on them.
Virgil: "Fama, malum qua non aliud velocius ullum." or "‘Rumour, than whom no other evil thing is faster.’"
The preacher C. H. Spurgeon: 'A lie will go round the world while truth is pulling its boots on.’
Jonathan Swift: "Falsehood flies, and truth comes limping after it; so that when men come to be undeceived, it is too late; the jest is over, and the tale has had its effect: like a man, who has thought of a good repartee, when the discourse is changed, or the company parted; or like a physician, who has found out an infallible medicine, after the patient is dead."
Attributed to Churchill, but there are earlier versions.

Unambiguously true back then, but it's not quite the same calculation now with everybody jaundiced against the media and its bias, and the ability to get the truth out, and disseminated, almost immediately. I'm not saying he should have let them publish, but I don't think it's obvious that it would have had a worse outcome for him. Establishing memorable precedent of a lie against him may come in handy. This won't be that memorable.

Will this employee get any blowback?
Not from Hunter…
Oh, you mean repercussions… Possibly.

I’m still a little disappointed that nobody appreciated my blowback joke…
