Captain Cam & Old Man Strength…(warning, football related)

When Pittsburgh extended the borderline hall of famer this past off-season for another 2 years, a lot of Steeler fans groaned. While they loved him for his history, at 34, he’s past the sell-by date for Defensive Tackles and his stats clearly showed it last year. He had averaged 6.5 sacks a year, 4 passes batted down per year, and 11 TFL per year. Those are Hall of Fame Stats, especially for DT on a 3/4 Defense whose schematic has the DT collapse the pocket and forces the QB or RB to the outside for the OLB’s to get the splash plays. But in 2023, he only had 2 sacks, 1 pass blocked, and 7 TFL. Respectable numbers, but not what you want from one of the 20 highest paid tackles in the league. He was obviously too old, and time to let him go. His comments about the 2 groin injuries just proved their point… At his age, injuries happen.
But the Steelers did extend him, though, in all truthfulness, they just dpread his salary already promised and spread it over 3 years, making Cam an average paid player. Cam then had 2 surgeries, rested a few months, and began working out…
So far this season, the Walter Payton Man of the Year has recorded 8.5 sacks, 8 passes blocked, and 10 TFL. He is the highest rated interior lineman according to PFF,?is a lock for his 4th All Pro, and 8th ProBowl. Last week, people have started putting him in the DPOY conversation. Frankly, if he maintains this pace for the last 4 weeks, he deserves it.

I hope he can enjoy his retirement when it comes.
And hopefully that’s soon?
