I don't mind the guy going to prison, but I think his sentence should be different. I think he should be mandated to practice in prison. Working inmates are paid, so I'd set his compensation at $1/hr for each actual hour worked.

Falsifying records to call for unnecessary surgeries for patients in his care? He should have gone into the gender reassignment business.

There's always a shortage of prison docs. Make him work.
And if he works, the law says you have to pay him. The lowest paid prisoners at Angola are the field hands and they make as low as two cents an hour. The high highest paid guys are skilled labor and they make $1.80/hr.
They don't get all the money. Angola prisoners forfeit 20% of their pay for room and board, 20% to a victims compensation fund, and 30% to a savings account they can access upon release.
