This is big and fascinating news for fans of the recently departed and notoriously private McCarthy.

these romances lack the 47-year novelistic drama of the craziest story.

McCarthy’s hold on literary awareness was at a stage of maximum receptivity.

I used AI to give me a summary so I wouldn't have to read whatever the fuck this was supposed to be.

      Please love yourself.

Vanity Fair has a new piece about Cormac McCarthy. Can you summarize it for me?

Vanity Fair recently published an article revealing a long-hidden aspect of Cormac McCarthy’s life: his 47-year relationship with Augusta Britt, who served as his muse. They met in 1976 when Britt was 16 and McCarthy was 42. Britt, seeking refuge from a troubled home life, encountered McCarthy at a Tucson motel. Their bond deepened, leading them to travel together to Mexico to escape her abusive environment. This relationship significantly influenced McCarthy’s writing, inspiring characters and themes in his novels. Despite McCarthy’s existing marriage and other complexities, their connection endured, marked by periods of separation and reconciliation. Britt’s decision to share her story offers new insights into McCarthy’s personal life and creative inspirations.

            Summarize this article

            https://www.vanityfair.com/style/story/cormac-mccarthy-secret-muse-exclusive

I couldn’t access the full content of the Vanity Fair article about Cormac McCarthy’s “secret muse,” but the piece likely explores an influential yet lesser-known figure in McCarthy’s life, shedding light on his creative inspirations. Vanity Fair often delves into the personal and artistic dimensions of iconic figures.

You can view the article directly here for a detailed account. If you have specific questions, let me know, and I can help explore related information!

What did you use? I used ChatGPT 4.

Possibly 4.0 has subscriptions to some popular magazines. Or maybe my question was general enough that it searched people commenting on the article and summarized it from that.

The writer of that article wrote an obscure Substack review of McCarthy's last novels, shortly before McCarthy died. The muse read it out loud to the declining McCarthy, who was pleased with some of the turns of phrase. The muse left a comment on the review, and ended up consenting to an extended interview. She had been approached by biographers and journalists before, but had never wanted to speak.
