Democrats have an empathy problem

Seeing a lot more of these sorts of pieces. I know they won't work. If you force people to discard their egos in favor of humility, you better be dangling a reward beyond "get to know Trump supporters better". No, they'll mostly all die with their egos intact, content in their self-righteous, unempathetic, and frankly a little bit dumb bubbles.
What's the one way in which you'll hear people brag about not being able to understand something that most other people understand? When they're telling you they can't understand how all those people could possibly disagree with them politically. Politics makes people brag about literally being stupid. But, this is normal. Cultural programming, as it matures, becomes incompatible with other programs. It overwhelms empathy and rational thought, and people become the fish who don't know what water is.

Which is honestly why I wish we'd talk about other stuff more often. While Zappa may not have been concretely correct by saying politics is the entertainment division of the military industrial complex, he was completely correct in sentiment.

I guess there might be an economy of topics where one category can suppress another, but it's not really obvious that that's how it works.

I don't think one suppresses one another, but it's obvious to anyone who reads this forum what the preferred topics are. That's not even unique to the forum, obviously. It's what most people want to rant about online.

Shocker, but for a general subject forum, we probably talk about politics less than many others on the web.

Democrats Have An Empathy Problem of Their Own
It's time for Dems like me to do the hard work of actually listening to Trump voters..So let’s start here. I can read this two different ways. The author could mean that it’s hard to accept our own culpability and shortcomings, and that’s the hard work… Or they could mean the very act of listening to Trump voters is onerous.
I also question why nobody is addressing the 35% of registered voters that chose not vote this cycle or chose to vote 3rd party/independent. It seems to me that there is a quite large segment of the population that is not involved in the process and maybe we should ask why?

I think he meant the former.

I guess he's addressing what is under his control, which is the messaging and attitude of his own tribe. If he can improve that, the improved messaging will speak to that 35%.
