I muddled through that, skimming some. Buried in there is the fact that every swing state is, by law, required to provide its electoral votes according to its popular vote count. The hand waved fear mongering about "plausible" paths for Trump to steal our Democracy, is not serious, and has never been serious. It is even less serious now than it was four years ago.

@Horace I think that concern from the article is that the swing states do not certify the popular vote.

If it were simply as easy as you mention, then on early November 2020, President Trump would have said that he lost and President Biden won.

There is no legal way to not certify the popular vote. If elected officials do illegal things, then the courts intervene.

This does not follow. Trump can think there was fraud in the vote counts, regardless of the laws.

There’s another rumor that’s why Biden quickly promoted Kamala, and why it took multiple days for Obama to endorse Kamala.

I personally don’t credit it. Personally, I think Cruz was just using the Obama name to attract attention to the dropping Joe theory, and I don’t think the Obama’s want that type of spotlight anymore.

I think Cruz used Michelle's name, because that was something being kicked about at the time. It's not the first time her name has come up.

Here's the most on-the-nose existential threat porn I've ever come across. It starts with a handwaved connection between Trump and Hitler, then spends the rest of the article talking about how horrifying Hitler was.

I am convinced that the people who consume this stuff, enjoy it. It is not a heart wrenching reality they are courageously confronting. It is a pulp fiction narrative they are excited to embrace and consume. This story in particular provides no insight into reasons why this would be less likely to happen today. The reader is encouraged to believe it could easily happen today, and reason to the contrary is abandoned. This is genre fiction. It might be similar to true crime, actually. True crime is generally consumed by titillated females, and existential threat porn is similar.

If this were all a book, I'd probably be skipping the rest of this chapter and the next one to see where this is all headed.
