Netflix just had a docudrama about the Menendez brothers. Apparently there's some new revelations that might make people reconsider their opinions.

If you recall, they were convicted of killing both their parents as they sat in their living room, watching TV. They walked in and shot them with shotguns - in the face. After the killing, they spent $700K on cars, travel, etc. Both were sentenced to life without parole. Their excuse was that their father was molesting them.

Turns out that one of the members of Menudo (remember them?) said that the father, Jose (?) molested him when he visited.

Secondly, one of the brothers - I forget which - wrote a letter to a cousin, 6 months before the killings, saying that he was afraid of their father and he wanted to protect his younger brother from abuse by their father.

Now, there are calls for revisiting the case - perhaps freeing the brothers.

They’re the new celeb cause du jour. Not feeling it. Maybe you were abused, but you’re still not allowed to bushwhack your parents.

Yup. That's what Mrs. George said to me.

One can almost understand killing the old man...almost.

But killing your mother because she's a witness? Nah.

        Now throw away the key.

They wanted them gone. Whether it was for revenge or for the money or both doesn’t make a great deal of difference. My suspicion is both, which is pretty much the definition of premeditated murder. AMF.

            https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/menendez-brothers-resentence-prison-murder-da-george-gascon-rcna175627

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said Thursday he will seek resentencing for Lyle and Erik Menendez in their parents' murders, paving the way for their potential release from prison after decades.

He said he would file paperwork Friday that recommends that life without the possibility of parole be removed in the brothers' case and that the brothers are resentenced for murder. A Superior Court judge will make the ultimate decision.

Beyond Friday's filing, no timeline or court hearings have been set.

Gascón said that because the men were younger than 26 when they killed their parents, they would be eligible for parole immediately if a judge follows his resentencing recommendation.

Joseph “Lyle” Menendez and Erik Menendez fatally shot their parents, entertainment company executive José Menendez and Kitty Menendez, with shotguns in their Beverly Hills home in 1989. The brothers were 21 and 18 years old at the time.

Defense attorneys for the brothers argued they were sexually abused by their father, and, after two trials, they were convicted of murder and sentenced to life without parole.

The DA's announcement comes three weeks after Gascón said his office was reviewing the case and would consider whether they should be resentenced.

Gascón, who is seeking re-election next month, said then that “we have a moral and ethical obligation to review what has been presented to us.”

Even if the old man was abusing one of the brothers, what's the justification for shooting your mother, other than to get rid of a witness.

is Gascon on the ballot? These cause celebre cases are such a joke, allowing public pressure to dictate criminal justice outcomes.

There can be no doubt of their guilt or their motivation. I just can’t see letting them out.

Gascon is down 2 to 1 in the polls. Was this an attempt to garner favor in his bid for reelection?

As an aside, wonder what Soros has gotten for his money? Since 2000, he's spent somewhere around $30B to influence American politics and policy.

Looks to me like a lot of his backed DA's and police initiatives are going down in flames...
