My guess is that it is not just female anchors. I am sure it is the same for all the news people and hosts,
Hard to justify the same salary if the audience is 1/2 (and probably advertisements are also ~ 1/2)

Right.
And that's why so much of the WNBA bitching (can I say that?) about salaries is ludicrous.
You get paid for putting people in seats, or people tuning in.
You can't draw an audience (even if it's not your fault) or fill a stadium, there no reasonable explanation why you should be paid the same as Brokaw or Michael Jordan.
