Philadelphia police say a man who shot a teenager who tried to rob him using a fake gun was acting in self-defense.

It happened along the 2200 block of Emerald Street in the city's Kensington section just after 11 p.m. on Sunday.

Police say the 16-year-old suspect and another person approached a man on the street, flashed a fake gun and attempted to rob him.

The 21-year-old victim had a real gun and fired at the teen, wounding him in the leg.

The shooting was caught on surveillance video obtained by Action News.

"Just to clarify, the victim ran up to a vehicle that was parked and the operator of that vehicle is licensed to carry," an officer said in scanner traffic Sunday night when Philadelphia police responded.

The teen was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, where he is in stable condition.

Police recovered a fake gun and a 9 mm pistol at the scene.

Is the guy with the real gun chasing the perp?

      I think so.

It does look like the guy running ahead of him seems to point something at him.

I think self - defense. No way to know if the "gun" is a real gun or not.

        Looks like it.

It's interesting, since it looks like he quit chasing the perp, when the teenager dropped the fake gun.

Since the guy was shot in the leg, maybe they say bad day for you and let it ride. If the shooter had killed the kid while chasing him, it wouldn't go well for the shooter.

Personally, I'm about to the point where if a perp tries to commit an armed robbery or a car jacking, I don't care if the intended victim chases the perp a city block and puts a double-tap in the back of his head.

OK by me. Don't wanna get shot? Don't try to rob people.
