Look, guys, it's not just MSM, okay?

I'm doing some SEO work for an anime website. Okay? Anime. (No, Jon, not that kind of anime. At least pretty much not from the look of things.)
Looking at the stories they've been publishing over the past couple of years, there's a lot of Trump stuff. Like, really strange Trump stuff.
- One-Punch Man Inadvertently References Ballads Featuring Donald Trump
- Barron Trump Debuts as Manga Idol in Tokyo
Weird shit like that. And mind you, the target demographic here is teenagers with yellow fever. Teenagers don't vote. Period, end of story, they don't vote. Anime-loving teenagers even more so. So what the hell?
Editor told me that without the Trump references, they couldn't get any respectable number of website visitors during the last election. If they didn't inject themselves into the political conversation, they had shit traffic for the week and their advertisers got pissed. All anyone wanted to do was read about people involved in the election, so that's what they did.
And apparently the trend continues. The editors hate it and think it's ridiculous, but they try to publish X number of Trump stories monthly to keep up.
The problem's at least in large part the audience, not exclusively the MSM Barge.
Cracked had the same damn problem. The exact same. And they didn't adjust. That's why they went under.

tl;dw: Actually no, just watch the thing. You wanna know why everything's political today, just watch the thing. Did you know Facebook and Twitter are now extremely biased in favor of current events and outrage porn, and bury paid posts on evergreen topics? Just watch the thing.

Again, public square, public utilities.
We're really getting to that point with some of the platforms.
