It’s not mandatory ID. It’s mandatory proof of citizenship. So DL not good enough. You have to have a passport or be in possession of your birth certificate.

How many college kids have their birth certificate in their dorm? How many people lose their birth certificates? I’ve had to reorder mine on two occasions.

All to solve a non-existent “problem” that has been invented solely as a pretext to make it harder for many US Citizens to vote or to register in the first place.

LD, at least, it smart enough to see this for what it is.

Mandatory photo ID would be acceptable if they weren’t handing out DL to undocumented migrants (which would make them documented, no?) but since we are, we can’t safely rely on photo ID.

As far as College Students? Most college students have to vote absentee…They can’t go to their polling place when they are 4 hours away. Oh, and many jurisdictions require a passport or birth certificate to get an absentee ballot…

I need birth certificate to get a DL, enroll in school, get married, collect inheritance, get a job, and more. It’s not an onerous requirement and when one party has started allowing non-citizens to vote in local elections, it’s important to verify that the correct ballots are being given to the correct voters.

So why is one party so determined to say election security is less important getting a job at McDonalds or getting a Driver’s License?

Pennsylvania automatically registers you to vote when you apply for a Driver’s License.

They also have been granting DL to undocumented aliens…

If it happens, it will only hurt the Republicans I think.

Democrats can easy to say, "yes, we want fair elections. But this is about the government budget. Social security checks will stop. (Show a picture of an elder eating cat food). Our brave fighting men and woman going with out pay. etc. because the Republicans......"

Same as last time. The Republicans were the ones who looked bad. DOnt think it would change this time either.

          Still cannot govern:

          https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2024/09/16/house-republicans-government-funding/

House Republicans have been in power for nearly two years — and they’re still unable to solve fiscal problems within their ranks.

The belligerent nature of the conference, coupled with a historically narrow majority, has made it almost impossible for any GOP leader to appease each corner of their constituency when nearly every Republican vote is necessary to pass bills along party lines.

House Republicans reject their own funding bill with a shutdown around the corner
A handful of Republicans voted to derail Speaker Johnson's plan linking funding to a Trump-backed voter ID bill. The government will shut down on Oct. 1 unless Congress acts.

            That was Sep. 18, 2024.

House to take up new funding bill as some Republicans fear a 'galactically stupid' shutdown

Donald Trump pressured Republicans to pass a citizenship voting bill or shut down the government. This week, Speaker Mike Johnson will try to move forward without it.

                      https://www.cpr.org/2024/09/25/congress-passes-funding-bill-avoids-government-shutdown/

Congress passes funding bill set to expire in December, avoids government shutdown

Both chambers passed it. Basically a short term continuing resolution that extends the budget to Dec. 20, plus extra Secret Service funding to beef up security for the upcoming election.
