Most likely an ambassadorship to a coveted spot. Great Britain has been rumored as the primary job.

I always thought it was interesting that some of the top diplomatic postings go to friends/large donors, etc. rather than to career diplomats

Mostly because those jobs run themselves.

yes and no. There is a lot of impact that an ambassador can have. Some friends/donors do a great job, others....... not so good.
