Coming out of her shell

I’ve mentioned the chihuahua that we are inheriting at the end of the summer… The rodent belongs to one of Karla’s clients that has been going to the UK for 4-6 months per year and regular weekend trips to her out of state boyfriend since 2020. Since COVID, the rodent has been here more than her home. The woman is moving to England at the end of August and we’re adopting LG (me, begrudgingly).
There are 2 types of chihuahuas, in my experience. There is the mean little Napoleon chihuahuas that bite and snap at everything, or there’s the scared chihuahuas that are shaking in terror. LG is definitely the second one. She hides from other animals, tries to find places to hide, and runs from me. She doesn’t play or ever seem very happy…
Since we got the kittens, they are very interested in LG when she is visiting… Magneto in particular. They follow her wherever she is hiding and try to get her to play (well, Mags does. Pistachio just chews on her ear while she shakes in terror).
3 weeks ago, we saw something amazing. LG playing with a toy with Mags. Had never seen that before. Then last week, we caught LG playing with the toy by herself… Then this morning, on her walk, she saw a poodle, and rather than hide behind me like normal, she ran up wagging her little rat tail and played with the poodle…
