I agree that the Olympics are becoming less "important" but I disagree with the writer as to why.

I think it is more that in today's world, international athletes compete against each other all the time. A long time ago, the only time you got to see athletes from other countries was at the Olympics. Now, all the major sports leagues have a pretty good % of foreign athletes.

The Olympics are just not unique any more.

It's just sport. Honestly, if a Brit invented cold fusion I'd get really patriotic. Winning at rowing - meh.

        I was only joking

          Tribalism is bad.
No good reason to mix sports with politics.
You do not want your athletes to act political anyway.

Other than a short mention in the article concerning leftist media personalities and their criticism of patriotism, the article contains no tribalism. Unless you are defining patriotism as tribalism?

I've found the Olympics less interesting since they started introducing a bunch of sports that get wall-to-wall coverage elsewhere.

Olympic Golf, FFS. Isn't the world awful enough already?

              I was only joking

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

That being said, I would fully support combining Olympic Golf with archery or shooting or maybe even lawn-mower racing.

Nah, try golf + bull-riding. Both bulls and golf belong in a pasture.
