There seems to be broad consensus that Biden has handlers, but I rarely hear them named. I guess B Obama is a likely candidate, and I have heard him named. Any other likely contenders? I'm not sure Harris is in his inner circle. I doubt Biden has much choice about who that inner circle is. I guess the circle chooses members of the circle.

Less conspiratorially, I can also imagine that he delegates to advisors for every issue, and so every issue has its own handler.

I don’t really think Obama. Frankly, I don’t think the two of them like each other very much. I think Schumer, if you’re looking for a big name, but I think it’s really somebody that is behind the scenes entirely.

Most presidents are handled pretty well by their chief of staff. Biden surely more so.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Matt Yglesias got into this question today on a podcast. Names he lists, as "close advisors to Biden" who would lose their political power if Biden steps down:

Michelle hates Biden. Hates him. So she definitely ain't in the inner circle. Barry uses him, only as far as he can get what he wants. I figured Jill is the gatekeeper and checks off on any proposed agenda proposed by Zients.
