    From The Baton Rouge Advocate:

A mother and her niece were arrested after the two allegedly started a brawl at a Eunice Walmart and the mother discarded her infant in the trash can, authorities said.

Brionka Benjamin, 38, of Opelousas, and Makatelynn Benjamin, 20, of Opelousas, were both arrested Saturday after the two incited a brawl outside of the Walmart in Eunice, according to a statement from the Eunice Police Department.

By the time police arrived around 3:30 p.m., the fight had dissolved. Upon further investigation, surveillance footage appeared to show Brionka Benjamin, mother of a 6-month-old infant, tossing her child into a nearby trash can before striking another person.

"She wanted to free her hands so she could fight, isn't that something?" Eunice Police Chief Kyle LeBouef said.

The infant was unharmed and released to other family members.

The fight occurred after the two women saw someone in the store they did not like, according to LeBouef.

Brionka Benjamin faces a charge of simply battery and cruelty to juveniles. Makatelynn Benjamin faces one count of simple battery.
