From what I understand, hydrogen has a much lower energy-density per volume compared with gasoline, but much higher energy per unit weight, so it would kind of make sense for aircraft if they can get enough of it on board to power sustained flight.

I think I read that Toyota is also exploring hydrogen as a fuel for internal combustion as well as fuel cells.

Sounds like job security for me if there is going to be a need to implement a large hydrogen supply infrastructure.

IMO, he was right. And...I think this is where solar or wind energy and the sea meet. It takes more energy to make it than what you get from it, but the big problem with solar or wind energy is how to store it for peak usage times.
Hydrogen can be stored and is portable. It seems like a very viable alternative to fossil fuels for longer distance transportation. The problem will be infrastructure.
