Dining rooms going away. More Americans lonely.

I have a dining table. Seats six to eight. Can stretch to ten, if folks are friendly. I insist on using it for breakfast and supper. When the kids were at home, meal time was pretty much set and we ate together. Come in late? Go hungry.
You know, some little things in life are more important than they seem. Dressing up with your spouse or girlfriend when attending a wedding or other formal event. Eating together at a common table. Inviting friend or family over for a holiday meal.
It's the little things that make life a lot better...

And, when people were finished eating, "May I be excused?"

People want to leave because it's boring (or the food is bad). Have interesting conversation (or show interesting entertainment on a nearby screen/speaker) and you'd have to tell them to leave instead. (Like, "you, start clearing the table" and "you, go do the dishes.")

The point wasn't completely over your head, but it did bounce...

I'm having a small battle with my daughter's children right now. Beat or bribe, it mattereth not, but those grandchildren will address people as mister, miss, or mrs. They will say "yes, ma'am", "no ma'am" or "yes, sir", "no, sir".
The proprieties shall be observed.

You want them to call you “Mister Grandpa”?

Agree. Good thing to do. I also agree with your comment about mental illness increaseing as people are more isolated.
