There are some big demonstrations going on now here in Thailand. Student protests against the government but more against the monarchy.

Thailand has serious laws against speaking against the monarchy, called else-majeste, which appears to be equivalent to sedition speech. Speaking against the monarchy in any form (social media, newspaper, speech, etc) can get you 15 years in jail.

The old monarch was over pretty well liked. He passed away a couple of years ago and his son became king, and he is not as well liked.

For example, when the pandemic started, he went off to Germany (renting an entire luxury hotel to stay) with 20 misteresses.

Sounds like a totally reasonable thing to do. Wouldn't all of us do the same thing? Right, @jon-nyc ?

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

Not sure if anyone is following what is happening in Thailand, but things are getting interesting. A big protest two days ago (Sunday) with over 20,000 thousands people protesting against the monarchy and also the current government.

Previously, the protests were mainly at Thammasat University, but this last one was in government square, which is kind of a big deal.

The government has been pretty "hands off" to this point, but this morning called for the arrest of two of the student leaders.

Protesters are calling for a national strike on October 14th.

I hear those misteresses are pretty easy to find in Thailand.

But I can certainly see why the king is not real popular.

I sat next to a really pretty girl from Taiwan once on a bus. I kept thinking "Please don't get an erection... PLEASE don't get an erection"...

                  But she did anyway..

Friend of mine is at the protests this tonight, and sent me the following. 👎 😠 😧

They are spraying the people with water cannons that contain water, a liquid tear gas, and blue dye to mark people. 😞
