we’re standing on the precipice of a monumental shift

If she really knew what was coming next she'd be standing on the precipice of a monumental goldmine 🙂

I remain unconvinced that VR is going to become mainstream any time soon. The headsets are way too clunky.

      I was only joking

@Doctor-Phibes said in The end of the smartphone?:

I remain unconvinced that VR is going to become mainstream any time soon. The headsets are way too clunky.

Remember the Motorola "brick" phone? I had one. It was awful, but the herald of things to come. In its defense, it was bulky, awkward and ugly - but did the job without being too intrusive. One could carry it in a bag and not be too inconvenienced. And, when you pulled it out, people would say, "Cool, he has a wireless cellphone!"

It was obviously the beginning of the evolution.

But until the headsets become as unobtrusive as today's cellphones are, it's a non-starter for mass acceptance. If you can make it like a pair of glasses (as Google tried) it might work.

          Not ready for primetime.

          Yet.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

Either neurological implants or digitization of the mind.
Everything else is just an ephemeral crutch.
